2011 Raffle Layout - The Track Plan

Each time we design a new Cheo Raffle layout, the biggest challenge is to arrive at an interesting track plan that contains the necessary features all in a small manageable package. Fortunately we have Andreas on the team who invariably comes up with these great ideas - this year is no exception!

When designing a track plan, you should consider these key points: The key contraint we had to wrestle with is "size". The layout had to be portable and fit into an average sized room since the winner may not have excessive floor space. As such we decided to limit the layout size to 4 ft by 7 feet. It will be built in two modules, each 2 ft x 7 ft which will ease transportation.
With this design approach we were able to divide the layout into two scenes, one will be a heavy industrial area sporting numerous closely located buildings, the second half will have a rural flavour with a corner store, water fall, etc.

Andres designed the layout so that the two modules can be attached back-to-back on the long sides, or butted end-to-end. This variety will play a key role in how we lay out the buildings and scenic elements as we need to ensure adjacent items on the modules line up correctly.

Andres used the Atlas Right Track Track Planing tool to design the layout. This is a free downloadable tool that includes a library of the Atlas track components whihc will allow you to quickly assemble a track plan.

The drawings included below are from this tool.
