September 26th, 2009 Meet


Enclosed are some photos from the September Meet.

The Facilities

Ample seating was provided for the many attendees.

The Hotel provided an excellent collection of treats to start the meeting off on the right foot!

The Display Table

Bruce Leckie was behind a large percentage of the models on display this month. Here is his scratch built Beausoriel Belle ferry boat and wharf.

Bruce L also scratch built this wonderful HO scale COOP industry.

And finaly, Bruce L scratch built this Radial Coal yard from plan that appeared in the RMC.

Peter Joyce has demonstrated his scratch building skills with this O Scale Montreal & Southern Counties Railway Milk Car # 514. The model is built from wood and styrene with parts from Precision Scale, Q-Car, Wagner and Walthers.

Chris Lyon has once agained demostrated his eye for colour in this brilliantly painted plastic Tyco kit.

Grant K has performed a major kit bash of a Walthers kit to arrive at a Power Station destined for David Steers HOm layout.

Grant Knowles had some of his "to be built" plaster kits on display.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Lorne Munro has cast his own plaster model of the Fenelon Falls Station that will receive hand scribed bricks and stone.

This neat On30 porter tank engine was kit bashed by Bruce Leakie.

Bruce L also kit bashed this On30 diesel from numreous odd pieces.

Here are some On30 cars scratch built by Bruce L to accompany his small engines.

This Sn3 Westside #12 Shay model required 5 years of on again, off again work by David Steer to bring it to life. The rebuild includes DCC sound.

A few months post the season, but Normand has finished his Silver Plume Bakery! The building sports a Plastruct standing seam roof with a scratch built chimney. The floor is removable to allow installation of of a detailed interior.

These modified HO locos were brought in by Bruce Leakie.

These two Athearn HO scale 34 ft Hoppers have been relettered and weathered by Normand Levert for his NORD Railway.

Peter Nesbitt was showing us his O scale White Ground Farm Supply that he will be building as part of the KitBusters program.

Ron Newby had his completed On30 Superior Detritus Co Boxcar boxcar kit from Full Circle Models ( ).

Bill Meek had his plaster farm house on display that he had previously built.

The venue for the September Meet will be held in Morrisburg, Ont.

Location: MacIntosh Inn
12495 County Road 2.

Directions Take Highwy 31 south out of Ottawa.
Cross over the 401 and turn left (east) on Highway 2.
The Inn is about 1 km on the left (north) side of the road.

Travel time from Ottawa Centre to Morrisburg is about 1 hr 20 mins.


The program for September will consist of clinics in the morning along with the introduction of the 2009/10 program - Plaster Structures 101 .
The afternoon will include visiting three local layouts, both indoors and out. Maps will be provided at the meet.

Plaster Structures 101
As our "official" event for this season is the Plaster Structures 101. We will be handing out the kits that were purchased by those who participated in the group purchase. If you were one of these individuals, please bring along the balance of your payment.
For the rest of you who will be providing your own plaster kit, we ask that you bring those unassembled kits to the meet and place them on the Display Table so we can see what challenges lie ahead of us!

Of course you are welcome to bring out anything RR related!


The entry fee is $5.00 at the door. NMRA members can join the SLD / NMRA and enjoy all of its benefits for a nominal fee and guests are always welcome.
